The NZ U23 mens national team has won the gold medal match at the Pacific Games 2019.

The Olywhites came up against the full national team of New Caledonia in the grand final played in testing conditions in Samoa.

Trailing 1 nil in the 86th minute the young kiwis dug deep to find an equaliser that looked like it would send the decider straight to penalties.

The New Zealanders had other ideas however and piled on the pressure looking to turn the tie on its head with a late and dramatic winner.

WPSS graduate Billy Jones seized the moment and scored from a 94th minute set piece to start the party and claim the gold medal for New Zealand.

Congratulations to Miya and the NZ U23 staff and players on an impressive performance in Samoa, gold medal winners and an unbeaten record scoring 22 goals and conceding only twice in 5 outings.
