What is WPSS?

Wellington Phoenix Soccer School is New Zealand’s most successful football development programme, and Soccer School for New Zealand’s only professional team — the Wellington Phoenix FC. Wellington Phoenix Soccer Schools is an elite development program for players aged between 8–18 years. The Soccer School creates a pathway for Auckland’s Elite players to the professional level to both the highest domestic level and international football.

How do I join?

WPSS is by trial or invitation only. All new players are welcome to attend a trial session by contacting jo@wpss.org.nz or Click Here to register your interest.

Do I have to play for Onehunga Sports FC?

Onehunga Sports FC is the partner club of WPSS and offers winter football options for all players from Grade 9 to Men’s Premier Team. There is no obligation for players to play for Onehunga Sports FC but this is highly recommended and WPSS professional coaches manage the game day match. Onehunga Sports FC premier teams have no parent coaching.

Where are the training locations?

WPSS home ground is Waikaraka Park in Onehunga (Including our office). We also use turf facilities at Bill McKinley park (Panmure) and Auckland Grammar Turf (Mt Eden).

How many sessions do you offer?

The U8-U10 School have 3 contact options per week and the U11-U17 School have 4 contact options weekly.

What are the costs involved?

Full Time Elite School players commit to the annual programme of 4 weekly contacts, Holiday Programme and winter season football at Onehunga Sports FC. These players commit to an annual fee of $2000. Part Time players can choose a training schedule to supplement their football, Part Time fee’s and options can be viewed HERE.

What players have you produced?

WPSS has a proud tradition in player development. Since our inception in 2014, we have had 11 players represent New Zealand at U17 FIFA World Cup level, 14 players represent New Zealand at FIFA U20 World Cup level, 3 players represent New Zealand at U23 level and 7 players at All Whites National team level. What is the minimum requirement for playing kit?

The minimum requirement for WPSS Kit is: Socks, Shorts & Shirts (2). In addition, players can purchase a rain jacket and bag. For new players, there is discounted ‘New Player Pack’ available HERE.

How does my player get to go on international tours?

International Tours are a crucial part of our player development journey. Many of our International Tours are annual tours - Australia U10 Tour & Japan U13 Tour. And other International Tours are based on unique Tournament opportunities we are invited to. WPSS has played in several world class competitions against the likes of; Real Madrid, Arsenal and Barcelona. Check out our recent tours, HERE.

Can part time players attend holiday programmes?

WPSS Part Time players are welcome to attend Holiday programmes. These can be purchased during the registration process or added at any time. WPSS also welcomes players who are not currently in the Elite School to attend (assessment pending).

What is included in term fees?

The WPSS programme aligns with the school terms. The U8-U10 School have 3 contact options per week and the U11-U17 School have 4 contact options weekly, for a 10 week term. In the off-season WPSS runs an in-house Saturday Soccer and the winter season game day through Onehunga Sports FC (Managed by WPSS Coaches). In addition to the weekly contacts, term fee’s include: Holiday Programmes, Video Analysis, Theory Sessions and Athletic Testing (Senior Academy Only*).
